The 5 day Direct access course is for learner riders with little or no relevant experience, who want to start from scratch. We'll help you pass your CBT test and full motorbike test in a week. The race track gives you the ideal environment to make safe progress in a controlled, relaxed way, calming any nerves and allowing you to concentrate on controlling your bike safely and building confidence. It's the perfect way to start your motorbike training. This is an intensive motorbike course with the emphasis on safety with a track record for success.
Direct access motorcycle training can be very difficult and hazardous if you are forced onto a public road too early. This is why clients love the idea of coming to a race track, where you can learn at your own pace. You can start with the CBT test and progress straight into your 5 day intensive motorcycle course. With our unique environment you'll make great progress.
CBT test is included, so there is no need to wobble round a car park and scare yourself out on the road on a 125cc bike. We provide you with 650cc -1250cc motorbikes with Suzuki Bandit 650's, Triumph Street triple r, Speed triple and Sprint GT 1050, Honda CB1000f and Yamaha MT07, MT09 and R1 along with all the safety clothing, back protectors and helmets. With Covid 19, we would recommend clients purchase their own motorcycle helmet where possible) Our direct access motorbike course allows you to ride any size bike, on an unlimited motorcycle licence. With our range of bikes, you'll be fully prepared for the motorcycle test and beyond. The only thing you need to do before attending your motorcycle training is pass the motorcycle theory test at a Pearson test centre near you (Book online at www.dvsa.gov.uk).
Our motorbike course takes a more considered, logical approach, appreciated by thousands of riders over the last 30 years. With a huge range of motorcycles to choose from, this is the best way to prepare safely for your motorbike test.
On day 1 of your 5 day motorcycle course you'll be able to use all gears, achieve speeds of 50-70mph, perform an emergency stop between 30-70mph, steer correctly at low and high speed, balance the bike at slower speeds, perform hill starts along with turning left or right at junctions. You can practise the mod 1 bike test on track and gain your CBT test at the same time. The race track allows you to learn so much more during your motorcycle training, than you would anywhere else. These are big bikes, not 125's, our Direct Access course gives you the appropriate room to pratcise safely.
Counter steering for fast bends is explained and demonstrated on track, to help you ride safely on your new bike. Our motorbike training will prepare you for the bike test and more importantly, for the years ahead, when you have to make split second decisions to ensure your safety and enjoyment of motorcyling. Many new riders feel vulnerable for the first few years of riding because they haven't been taught these essential skills. We know this, so let's ensure you are taught EVERYTHING you need from the outset during this 5 day Direct access course. Our motorcycle training prepares you for the motorbike test and beyond.
Accident prevention is the key, so we'll teach you how to stop a bike mid corner, while leant over between 50 - 75mph. This will totally change your depth perception when it comes to cornering and keep you 100% safe. We are the ONLY motorcycle training school in the UK to teach this essential maneouvre, it's not part of the official DVSA motorcycle test, but we know it's essential for your desire and ability to stay safe on the roads for years to come. Our motorbike training course will give you all the advanced skills you need to be safe while cornering.
This direct access motorcycle course will teach you how to accelerate at an acceptable rate for the road. Use the race track to build your confidence and understanding of accelerating through the gears, along with smooth control of the very sensitive throttle. You should be confidently pulling away from junctions up to 50-70 mph by midday. You'll need to be up to speed for your motorbike test on test day, let's get you confident on the race track first.
We even pillion each client where needed, to help you understand the rate of acceleration required. It's a fantastic opportunity to learn everything you need to ride well and clarify exactly what you are trying to achieve, all within the safety of the track. If needed, chief instructor Sean Hayes, will go pillion with you! Then you can fully understand how easy it is to ride with someone on the back. You can't do this as a learner motorcyclist on the road, but we can do it on the race track. The flexibility of learning to ride on the race track, gives you the chance to concentrate on all the aspects of riding a motorcycle that concerns you, without the hassle of other traffic. Once you are happy with your bike control, your DVSA qualified instructor will guide you on public roads all the way through to the motorcyle test.
More importantly you need to know how it feels to stop the motorcycle from 70mph. On track we can help you undertsand how it feels, correct procedures for the motorbike test and appropriate braking pressure to reduce your speed safely in every situation.
These are essential skills for the road. We can cover all these areas on the first couple of days to give you a broad, enjoyable experience. The whole course is structured to ensure you are confident of getting out onto the public road at the right stage. You'll only leave the circuit and go onto public roads when you are happy.
Only when you feel happy on the track between 0-70mph, along with all the module 1 elements (Slalom, Figure of 8, U Turn, Swerve test etc) would we consider going out onto public roads. Then, because you know you are in FULL control of the bike, we can cover far more miles successfully and your confidence will increase. More importantly, you are SAFE. We hear of many people up an down the country who are taken out onto the road too early, with minimal training, and scare themselves as a result. We don't want this to happen to anyone, that's why we take our time and give you the chance to work on the essential areas of motorcycle riding, before we even look at a public road.
Junction work has already been dealt with on track numerous times, so when it comes to a real life situation, you are fully prepared. Halfway through the week you'll be wondering why anyone would want to learn anywhere else!
Motorcycle training days are scheduled from 9.30am - 4.30pm.
Direct Access motorcycle training enables riders to gain a full UK motorcycle licence once they have passed the motorcycle test at the end of the week. This means you can go directly onto large capacity motorcycles safely, as long as your training is exhaustive and detailed.
At Circuit Based Training, we have the experience and patience, to deliver quality motorbike training for every new rider, helping you to pass the motorbike test with confidence. We don't believe that "adequate" training, covering just the basics of motorcycling is good enough. Motorcyle accident statistics prove this.
Through our work with the racing community, the motorcycling press and Police forces throughout the country, we have developed the best Direct Access training programme in the UK. Talk to any motorcyclist and they will tell you what we teach is great for getting a test pass but more importantly, it will keep you out of A&E. Our training will put a huge grin on your face when you realise the true benefits of initial training on the race track.
Let's teach you how to safely perform emergency stops at 50-70mph half way round a bend or in a straight line, because, let's face it, you don't get the choice in the real world. Let's cover cornering techiques in full, the same as an "advanced" motorcyclist, because we don't believe that going round a corner is an "advanced" skill, it's bloody essential!
We all need confidence when it comes to cornering, this is born out of good, proven technique. We'll sit you down and run through this extensively, every day! We'll also give you pillion rides whenever you request them, so you fully understand the impotance of accurate, confident cornering. Let's teach you all the techniques, within the safety of the race track. You'll soon realise that riding a motorbike is ALL about cornering confidence, without it you'll be scared stiff and never make the progress that you have been dreaming about.
Our Motorcycle training course covers vital areas such as;
Hazard perception / Throttle control / Clutch control / Braking balance / Cadence braking / Reference points / Balance points / Slow speed skillls
Module 1 and 2 test procedures / Mock tests on track and road / Junction work on track and road / Speed limits / Traffic management / Crash avoidance / Overtaking / Filtering
Course Schedule
MONDAY Motorbike Training Track / Paddock Inc CBT test
CBT day including all the legal elements of compulsory basic training.
One of the most important aspects of riding a motorcycle is confidence, so we're on on the track or in the paddock, learning to handle big bikes. We supply a large range of Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Triumph bikes from 650 - 1250cc. Cornering is fully explained in the classroom incorporating counter steering techniques, to accurately put the bike exactly where you want it.
Our direct access motorbike training covers emergency braking at up to 70mph, halfway round a corner. Let's prove you can ride a motorcycle and perform emergency stops at 70mph while you're banked over. It's the achiles heel of many established riders, let's make sure it's not yours!
TUESDAY - Motorbike training, OAS, Optional Advanced Skills
The mod 1 motorbike test is primarily concerned with slow speed steering, balance and control. Many clients have difficulty with this if they don't have the opportunity to practise extensively. Our intensive motorcycle training course gives you the chance to practice several drills and exercises to ensure that your slow riding is accurate and you are confident in your own abilities at the end of the course.
Feedback from every client shows that the module 1 motorcycle test, gives greater concern to most, than riding on the road.
If you don't pass module 1, you can't take module 2. With this in mind, we spend a large part of Tuesday geting to grips with ALL the elements of module 1. We have the space to re create the DVSA Test Motorcycle test site, incorporating the U-turn, slalom, figure of eight, emergency stop, controlled stop box and swerve test. As this is the priority for all clients we focus all our efforts on these exercises until you know you are ready to move on. This attention to detail ensures you have the best possible chance to pass the module 1 test first time. Remember, there is no track available on a Wednesday (Race practice day), it's important to get all this done in the first two days. When available, we can supplement all this with a visit to the DVSA's test site on a Wednesday when we are out on the road.
WEDNESDAY - Motorcycle training day CBT Road ride / Test centre Mod 1 Practice + Mock tests
Plenty of time and lots of miles on public roads with a variety of test routes incorporating everything you've learnt.
Completing the CBT test road ride (Minimum 2 hours) followed by a visit to your Motorcycle test centre (when available) for Mod 1 practice at the test centre site, with speed measuring to record avoidance and emergency stop procedures. This familiarity reduces stress on test day and builds confidence for everyone. The experience of having been up to speed on the track benefits clients hugely when it comes to handling overtakes and traffic situations competently. When asked if they felt the track had benefitted them, the response from all riders is an overwhelming YES. Many riders cannot see how it's possible to be safe on the road without having first set a decent standard on the track. We agree with this. The benefits of having been on the track are obvious once we get onto the public road, that's why we do it in this logical order. We would never encourage a client to take a big motorbike out onto the public road without having completed the first two days of our motorcycle training course.
THURSDAY - Motorcycle training road ride
We get on the road as early as practical, allowing for any questions based on the previous days performance. We recommend you read "Pass the bike test" from cover to cover (available on Amazon). Your motorcycle instructor will guide you through a variety of road situations with the emphasis on making safe progress. This is your time to polish and refine technique, remember, we always chase "technique" not speed. This time on the bike is essential to building confidence and understanding before taking your full motorcycle test. We want our clients to pass the bike test, but also have the skills to enjoy their new bike safely in the longterm.
FRIDAY Motorbike test Road ride, Module 1 and Module 2 test.
Plenty time on the road to polish and prepare for your motorbike test.
On our test day you have the option to take both Module 1 and module 2 tests on the same day with the same examiner.
Many schools encourage you to take module 1 on it's own and then, once you have passed this 10 minute test, book your module 2 for a separate day, some 2 - 6 weeks later. This is just prolonging the agony, it's their way of trying to sell you more training time. You could end up doing more days than you have bargained for, if you're not careful.
With our direct access training schedule you'll be ready for both on the same day, so we encourage you to get on with it and take module 1 and module 2 at the same time.
Passing the motorbike test this way, gives you your full motorcycle licence, enabling you to ride any size motorcycle. Why do it any other way?
