Motorcycle training at Mallory Park

Motorcycle training can be very difficult and hazardous if you start out too early on a public road, as there are too many distractions with traffic, pedestrians, kerbs and signs. This is why clients love the idea of coming to a race track, where you can learn at your own pace. The progress most people make is quite astounding.

CBT Test

CBT Test Included

CBT test is included, so there is no need to wobble round a car park and scare yourself out on the road on a 125cc bike.

It's essential that we teach you how to accelerate at an acceptable rate for the road. We can do this on the race track to build up confidence and understanding of acceleration through the gears along with smooth control of the very sensitive throttle. You should be confidently accelerating away from junctions up to 50-70 mph by midday.

Motorbike training with Pillion

We even pillion each client where needed, to help you understand the rate of acceleration required. It's a fantastic opportunity to learn everything you need to ride well and clarify exactly what you are trying to achieve, all within the safety of the track. If needed, chief instructor Sean Hayes will go pillion with you! Then you can fully understand how ease it is to ride with someone on the back. You can't do this as a learner on the road, but we can do it on the race track.

Direct Access motorcycle training enables riders to gain a full UK motorcycle licence once they have passed the motorcycle test at the end of the week. This means you can go directly onto large capacity motorcycles safely, as long as your training is as exhaustive and detailed as you would like it to be.

At Circuit Based Training, we have the experience and patience, to deliver quality motorbike training for every new rider, helping you to pass the motorbike test with confidence. We don't believe that "adequate" training, covering just the basics of motorcycling is good enough.

Through our work with the racing community, the motorcycling press and Police forces throughout the country, we have developed the best Direct Access training programme in the UK. Talk to any motorcyclist and they will tell you what we teach is great for getting a test pass but more importantly, it will keep you out of A&E. Our training will put a huge grin on your face when you realise the true benefits of initial training on the race track.

Let's teach you how to safely perform emergency stops at 30-70mph half way round a bend or in a straight line, because, let's face it, you don't get the choice in the real world. Let's cover cornering techiques in full, the same as an "advanced" motorcyclist, because we don't believe that going round a corner is an "advanced" skill, it's bloody essential!

We all need confidence when it comes to cornering, this is born out of good, proven technique. We'll sit you down and run through this extensively, every day! We'll also give you pillion rides whenever you request them, so you fully understand the impotance of accurate, confident cornering. Let's teach you all the techniques, within the safety of the race track. You'll soon realise that riding a motorbike is ALL about cornering confidence, without it you'll be scared stiff and never make the progress that you have been dreaming about.

Our Motorcycle training course covers vital areas such as;

Hazard perception / Forward planning / Scanning / Dismissing / Focal points / Risk assessment / Decision making

Throttle control / Clutch control / Braking balance / Cadence braking / Reference points / Balance points / Slow speed skillls

Module 1 and 2 test procedures / Mock tests on track and road / Junction work on track and road / Speed limits / Traffic management / Crash avoidance / Overtaking / Filtering

Course Schedule

MONDAY Motorbike Training Track / Paddock Inc CBT test

CBT day including all the legal elements of compulsory basic training.

One of the most important aspects of riding a motorcycle is confidence, so we're on on the track or in the paddock, learning to handle big bikes (650cc or larger, we don't stick you on a 125). Cornering is fully explained in the classroom incorporating counter steering techniques, to accurately put the bike exactly where you want it.

During your motorbike training we'll cover emergency braking at up to 70mph, then repeat the exercise halfway round a corner. Let's prove you can ride a motorcycle and perform emergency stops at 70mph while you're banked over and still maintain your position on the road!

TUESDAY Motorbike training, OAS, Optional Advanced Skills

The mod 1 motorbike test is primarily concerned with slow speed steering, balance and control. Many clients have difficulty with this if they don't have the opportunity to practice extensively. Our motorcycle training programme gives you the chance to practice several drills and exercises to ensure that your slow riding is accurate and you are confident in your own abilities at the end of the course.

Feedback from every client is that the module 1 motorcycle test, gives greater concern to most, than riding on the road.

If you don't pass module 1, you can't take module 2. With this in mind, we spend a large part of Tuesday geting to grips with ALL the elements of module 1. We have the space to re create the DVSA Test Motorcycle test site, incorporating the U-turn, slalom, figure of eight, emergency stop, controlled stop box and swerve test. As this is the priority for all clients we focus all our efforts on these exercises until you know you are ready to move on. This attention to detail ensures you have the best possible chance to pass the module 1 test first time. Remember, there is no track available on a Wednesday (Race practice day), it's important to get all this done in the first two days. When available, we can supplement all this with a visit to the DVSA's test site on a Wednesday when we are out on the road.

WEDNESDAY Motorcycle training day CBT Road ride / Test centre Mod 1 Practice + Mock tests

Plenty of time and lots of miles on public roads with a variety of test routes incorporating everything you've learnt.

Completing the CBT test road ride (Minimum 2hours) followed by a visit to your Motorcycle test centre (when available) for Mod 1 practice at the test centre site, with speed measuring to record avoidance and emergency stop procedures. This familiarity reduces stress on test day and builds confidence for everyone. The experience of having been up to speed on the track benefits clients hugely when it comes to handling overtakes and traffic situations competently. When asked if they felt the track had benefitted them, the response is an overwhelming YES. Many riders cannot see how it's possible to be safe on the road without having first set a decent standard on the track. We agree with this. The benefits of having been on the track are shown once we set out onto the public road with all our clients, that's why we do it in this logical order. We would never encourage a client to take a big motorbike out onto the public road without having completed the first two days of our course.

THURSDAY Motorcycle training Road ride

We get on the road as early as practical, allowing for any questions based on the previous days performance. You will have read the book "Pass the bike test" from cover to cover. This is your time to polish and refine technique, remember, we always chase "technique" not speed. This time on the bike is essential to building confidence and understanding. We want our clients to pass the test, but also have the skills to enjoy their new bike safely.

Motorbike test day

FRIDAY Motorbike test Road ride, Module 1 and Module 2 test.

Plenty time on the road to polish and prepare for your motorbike test.

On our test day you have the option to take both Module 1 and module 2 tests on the same day with the same examiner.

Many schools encourage you to take module 1 on it's own and then, once you have passed this 10 minute test, look to book your module 2 for a separate day, some 2 - 6 weeks later. We think this is just prolonging the agony, as well as taking more time off work. It's their way of trying to sell you more training time. You could end up doing more days than you have bargained for, if you're not careful.

With our training schedule you'll be ready for both on the same day, so we encourage you to get on with it and take both tests at the same time.

Passing the motorbike test this way, gives you your full motorcycle licence, enabling you to ride any size motorcycle. The choice is yours.
