Thank you so much for your help last week during the "advanced cornering course" my only reservation before attending was "can i really afford this course ?" well i can now honestly provide the answer.........." i couldn’t afford not too"

I’ve only been riding for just under 3 years and recently purchased a brand new Yamaha R6 after after 2 very happy years riding an old Kwak ZX6!! i have always felt that I’m safer than the average rider and worried more about damaging my bike should i have an accident. I have found the course however a true life saver ! the lads picked up on several bad habits i was unaware of, one of these being my breaking. By the end of the day they had re trained my brain and re flexes to brake safely and correctly and the section on cornering during a bend is nothing short of priceless......90 MPH round a corner, full lean on, then emergency stop !!! sounds crazy but when Wes taught us to do it correctly it felt natural after just a few attempts.

Around 6 months ago i was riding through the Langtons (B6047) in Leics following a friend who’s a little more experienced than myself so i hung back a little but i could see his helmet over the hedge rows slowly increasing in distance so i  presumed there was no hazards in the few hundred meters that separated us...wrong !! i entered a right hand bend and began to lean the bike in, half way around the corner on the apex i found a car sat in our lane with no lights on and soon realised it was stationary....the driver was looking to enter a farmers field but the gate was obviously closed !! No brake light or indicator until he saw a green Kwak in his rear view mirror coming toward him at an alarming speed. without the skills you have now given me i panicked and hit both brakes which brought the bike upright then believing it was not possible to stop on a bend at such a short distance i had only one chance to go round the car crossing the white line, then i spotted the car coming the other way....i ended up squeezing through both cars sitting on the white line and got through thanks to pure old luck !! I’m pretty sure both drivers would have heard a girly scream from beneath my helmet if they had listened and not thought that beeping and swearing was the answer to our situation.....

I still have a massive smile on my face one week later following the course and i sit here with bags more confidence and such a better understanding of my bike ! I cannot thank you all enough!! I’ve a lot of respect for bikes and biking is a true passion of mine and after your help i just want to learn more and  more....

if anyone is looking to do a course or further there training with CBT and would like to speak with a truly satisfied customer please feel free to contact me on 0752 52 040 62 or you can email me shaunmccluskey79@hotmail.com and ill run you through what i have got out of it..........by the time you read this I may have completed more training !!!

i look forward to seeing you all at Mallory Park again very soon……..safe riding !!!

P.s please thank the camera man for me, I’ve now got around 200 amazing pics of the day to drive the misses crazy. I’ve ordered the video too so after a painful 20 mins last night watching my friends holiday video of him and his girlfriend and what seemed like a million "lovely back grounds" i cannot wait to return the favour as he does not share my love of biking !!!!

Hi Sean,

Just thought I'd drop you a quick line to say a huge thank you to Dave, Pete and yourself, for getting me through my Direct Access course last week. I can honestly say that it really was worth every penny.... not necessarily something that you get to say a lot these days!

I had looked at several places for doing my Direct Access course and am hugely glad that I chose to train with you guys. It was clear from the beginning of Day 1 that you are not just about getting people through their test, you are clearly above all committed to producing a rider who is safe. I was immensely impressed with your safety ethos throughout the course, and the facilities that you have for learning to ride help in no small way with this.

I still struggle to imagine how a 'normal' school would be able to teach you to ride in such a safe manner. All the other schools I looked at seemed to take initial training in either school tennis courts or car parks. Quite how you are supposed to get up to any meaningful speed or practice cornering before going out on the road when stuck in the confines of such a small area I'll never know. With you guys though, none of this was ever going to be a problem. The vast paddock training area that you have at Mallory is fantastic for the job of learning the basics and getting up to a reasonable speed. The gradients and differing surfaces available all mean that you get to experience these before ever venturing near a public road..... something I really wouldn't have felt comfortable with if I'd only been riding round school tennis courts.

The track time was also absolutely invaluable before venturing out on the road. The fact that you teach emergency stops from realistic 60 to 70 mph speeds, and make sure that we are able to get a big bike round a corner properly using counter-steering is I believe a massive boost to safety. I really cannot fathom how a school can in good conscience let you out on the road on a big bike without having taught these skills, to my mind it's just not safe. I very quickly realised that counter-steering isn't an 'advanced' subject, it's an absolute necessity from Day 1 when doing much over 30mph on anything much bigger than a push bike!

The fact that we were able to ride with different instructors was also hugely beneficial. Yourself, Dave and Pete all have slightly different styles which provided us with access to more years of knowledge and experience than one rider could hope to get in a lifetime. I'd also like to say thanks for the patience that you all showed during the course, each taking time to explain the finer points of riding technique, and make sure that we were completely happy with what we were doing before moving on. You didn't even take the piss too much when I was hunting round for where I'd put my helmet, only to have Dave point out that it was on my head already. I honestly thought he was going to have a hernia he was laughing so much!.... who'd have known a helmet could be so comfortable that you'd forget you had it on (....it was a long day!!).

I have to admit to being a little nervous before I started the course, but you guys ensured that quickly passed as the course progressed. When it came time to move out onto the public roads, thanks to the skills you'd instilled in us, I was able to do so confident in my ability to control the bike properly and safely. I still can't quite believe that I turned up on the Monday having never ridden a motorbike and then confidently passed my test on the Thursday, just 4 days later. I'll definitely be back for the advanced cornering course! In the mean time, be assured, if I find anyone who is looking to learn to ride I will certainly be pointing them in your direction.

Once again many thanks for such a great course.

Best wishes, and safe riding,

Mike 18/9/08
Dear Sean, Dave, Pete & Tim

I wanted to write to say a big thank you for putting me through my paces on CBT, DAS course, Advanced Cornering Course and finally giving me the skills required to pass my test - even though it took two attempts!

In total I spent seven days with you guys and I have to say they were frustrating, absorbing, challenging, enjoyable, but above all made me feel safe on a bike. That was not a small achievement as having had two serious car accidents (neither my fault) I was not convinced I would ever be confident enough to ride a bike off road, let alone on a public highway. You got me confident enough to ride at 70mph on a dual carriageway, 80mph on the track (bit girlie) and pass my test.

Prior to my days with you my biking experience was limited to riding a moped to school 24 years ago and riding pillion on the back of my husband - twice only - as I was convinced I would die! Years have gone by and my partner recently passed his test, got the biking bug and talked me into doing the test so we could go touring around the UK and Europe. I half believed that I would sit on a bike say it wasn’t for me and leave. I spent a lot of time on the internet and thought the idea of training on the circuit before attempting the public highway was awesome. The only concern I had was the extra cost but decided that my life was worth more than an extra few hundred pounds.

You all know that I found day one very difficult and felt out of my depth - track time very hard and counter steering totally bizarre. Being the only one without a CBT certificate was daunting and even harder being the token woman on the course. The other students were great guys and quickly made me realise that their CBT certificates were not worth the paper they were written on and that they still had a lot to learn as their skills limited. You did not issue my certificate until you were totally comfortable with my riding ability. Day two arrived and Dave took me on the track for some intensive tuition and something finally clicked. Not before time I hear Dave saying as he reads this! Before I knew it I was out on the roads of Nuneaton with a bit of confidence! Unfortunately, I failed my test on the Thursday by being a total idiot and missing the correct exit on the roundabout. I was gutted that I failed as by then I was starting to believe I could and would be safe on the road and riding back actually felt like a biker!

I booked a re-test and signed up for the advanced cornering course which I attended two days prior to my retake. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and I gained a phenomenal amount of confidence listening to bikers with up to twenty years experience getting the questions wrong. The look of horror on your face Sean when some said they didn’t use their front brake will stay with me forever! I will always use mine and allow myself “settle time” before entering the corner. Please forward me the sixteen points of cornering as Mark and I will put them on the garage wall and refer to them regularly. You and Tim obviously know your stuff - your complimentary teaching styles, methodology, and enthusiasm cannot fail to improve every attendees riding. Watching Tim brake into a corner at 100mph whilst counter steering and maintaining his road position was unbelievable to watch . What was more unbelievable was that I then had to have a go and found it quite easy, albeit terrifying as you had so thoroughly drummed in the correct technique- I surprised myself and managed to do it at half Tim’s speed though.

I passed my retake and walked away with only three minors, no small achievement considering it was sleeting as we walked out of the test centre and poured with rain the whole way through. I cannot express how amazed I am at the confidence you have given me and the desire to get out there on my GSXR 750! Mark and I will definitely be back to do the advanced cornering course again and the knowledge he gained has already saved his life. On the way home he had an encounter with a white van and active counter-steering saved him. He is convinced that if it had happened the day before he would have died!

It has cost me a fair amount to pass my test - was it worth it and would I pay it again? ABSOLUTELY! The old saying is 100% appropriate - “you get want you pay for”. I am now a careful but confident rider and know that I still have a lot to learn. However, you guys have equipped me with the skills required to be a SAFE rider and as you so rightly say I should still be here when you phone me in a years time! Thank you all for your patience and quite frankly one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had in a long time. See you all soon for further tuition.

Regards Allie
Sean,

Thought I would drop an email to say thanks again to you and Dave for the excellent standards of teaching you gave to me. Well worth the cash!!

Who would of thought i'd go from nervous as hell, never riden a bike before to passing 5 days later. Granted i failed my first one but only because i was a prat and left the indicator on. Second attempt, aced, 1 minor fault, QUALITY!

The days out riding were great, massive learning curve but loads of fun all the same. I left each day with more and more confidence and couldn't wait to get back each morning for another go!!!

As for the track lessons well, where do i start. Emergency stops at real speeds, on bends and counter steering, you surely can't get teachings like this at this standard anywhere else, absolutely fantastic! I have friends interested and they now have your number for the new year, recommend you guys any time!!!

Thanks again

Hi Sean,

Thanks for a fantastic 4 days! Arriving on Monday absolutely bricking it having never been on a bike before (yes even 36 year olds get nervous!), Dave soon put us all at ease. I really enjoyed the course, it wasn’t rushed, we could take things at our own pace with the luxury of being able to practice in the safety of the paddock and race track. That alone is worth the extra couple of hundred pounds, on top of which you have access to all your guys riding experience and knowledge. Dave was very patient and more than happy to spend time with me, improving my riding, it was never a case of “oh that will do, that will get you a pass, I need to move on to the next pupil” it was all about making me a good SAFE rider to the highest standard.

The main feeling I came away with after the course was obviously elation at having passed my test but I knew I was a better rider than I would have been if I had gone elsewhere. I felt you guys genuinely cared about making me and everyone else a SAFER rider.

You can show this e-mail to anyone thinking of taking lessons, I, like them no doubt, trawled the internet looking for Motorcycle training. I was very confused as there seemed to be so many choices all for around the same sort of cost, all showing pictures on their web sites of people on bikes in school yards or car parks. I then came across Circuit Based Training (Mallory) Ltd. At first glance a couple of hundred more expensive, however in reality think about it, you ride around a playground for a couple of hours getting up to 20 – 30 mph max albeit for a few seconds as there isn’t much space, do you really feel confident about going out onto the public roads with other road users? I know I wouldn’t! I loved the idea of being able to ride consistently up and down the track, increasing my speed when I was ready to do so, not because some car was right on my arse putting me under pressure, practicing emergency stops, U turns (look where you want to go – not at the kerb!) gear changes, hill starts, all away from other road users.

When we did go out on the public roads my choice of CBT as a training company was fully justified, I felt safe and wasn’t fazed by other road users, Dave had been drilling it into us all week about paying particular attention to junctions and bends, look where you want to go, look into the distance at junctions joining your road in particular look for movement of vehicles out of these junctions. An old woman “kindly” tested this for me, she pulled out across my path while I was doing 60mph, I didn’t flap as I was already monitoring her at the junction, as soon as her wheels started to move quick dab of the brake to scrub off speed and a blast of the horn to avoid a nasty accident, all done in a very calm and controlled manor thanks to the training and practice on the circuit the previous day!

Can’t wait for the advanced course to build on the solid foundations you guys have already given me.

Kind regards

Fantastic course and even better instructors, I'm glad i picked you guys over the rest and was definately worth the money. I now feel so much more confident, controlled and safer on the road and owe it all to you guys. Will be seeing you in the new year for an advanced course.

Sean/Dave,

Having looked at the glowing tributes to you both, there seems very little to add to their recommendations and thanks.

Having a quarter of a century away from 2 wheels I was pretty nervous on day one, but when Dave spoke the same language as me (coarse) and I knew he was happy to call me a prat if needs be I was well into it straight away. The course work was interesting (which is unusual), and the track work great.......even with Colin trying on 63 different helmets before lunch-time.

The road-work over the next 2 days was initially a little daunting but by day 2 I wished for a much faster machine.

Starting my test by turning the wrong way at the very first roundabout made me convinced I had failed, but with a paltry 3 minors I passed. I did say I was going to wait for a bike til next year but I bought a Fireblade last week and still have to tell the wife!!!!!!!!!!

You guys are worth the money (rare), and the whole package delivers exactly what it says on the tin (unique).

Power to your elbows, see you next Spring for an advanced cornering day.......can't wait.

Dear Sean,

I would like to start with a massive thanks to Sean and his team for the best introduction to the world of motorcycling I could have had. As a father of 2 I had major concerns about even getting on a motorcycle for the first time with all the statistics that I have read about. However the training provided was second to none.

By being given the opportunity to learn the finer skills of riding a bike on track prior to going out on the road not only gave me the confidence in riding a bike correctly with the use of counter steering, but provided the perfect environment to practice emergency braking skills in a safe manner.

Having passed my test first time with circuit based training, it is inconceivable to me that people would want to go down the standard route of training in a car park, followed by a road ride and feel that they have the skills to ride on today’s roads with all the hazards they present. To this end I have bought a race rep 600 as a first bike and feel totally comfortable on it even with my limited experience.

This I can only put down to the training I have received and have already booked myself onto the advanced cornering day. Thanks again.

Hello Sean.

Thanks to you and the team for a terrific day yesterday. It was probably the most enjoyable I have ever spent on a motorcycle! As a road rider who likes to make progress where safe, I came to the course hoping to improve my cornering technique, increase corner speed, have a greater understanding of the grip available, and more belief in the abilities of my tyres and suspension.

I felt I was under-confident in cornering, could make much better progress safely, and be in a better position to deal competently and confidently with the unforeseen. Your advanced cornering course achieved that more fully than I had ever hoped. That wasn’t all though.

The (unexpected) section on braking was a helpful revelation. To have sustained time on the full track enabled us to start to reinforce and practice what we had learned, and as a Mallory Park spectator over many years, it was an absolute dream to lap the track again and again, gaining confidence and corner speed through the improving technique. (I almost learned as much on the occasions when concentration lapsed, and I made a complete pigs blanket of a corner! On the next straight I had time to analyse what I had done wrong to mess it up. Getting round untidily but ok, demonstrated how much more the bike had to give and the effectiveness of the recovery action we had learned. It also made me more determined to apply what you had said on the next lap and pass through the corner slickly!).

I now need to go away, think very hard about what I have learned, and reinforce good technique through concentration and practice. Well enough of the complimentary stuff, now e-mail me the seventeen points immediately, or I will come round and paint the R1 Barbie pink! All the best Andrew.

Hi Sean

Allie asked me to drop you an email about my near miss on the way home. (Well done on getting her through the test, dead chuffed for her.) After leaving Mallory i filled up at the local garage and then headed for coalville on that lovely twisty road! On entering the very first left hand bend at around 35mph a white Mercedes van going the other way was straddling half of my lane (pillock was on his mobile phone) I simply looked further to the inside my line pushed my left handlebar (hard!) and carried on, no problems at all missed him by miles.

I didn't roll off the throttle, I didn't brake just got out of his way and thought nothing of it.

It wasn't until i arrived back home that i realised without your training i would have more than likely panicked hit the brakes, stuck the bike upright and hit him! For me personally the best thing about your training is that it is fun, very easy to take on board and that it very quickly becomes instinctive and that mate is something to feel very proud of because you and your team are saving peoples lives.

The ability to stop your bike at high speed and at full lean on a corner without losing your line (and your bike!) is a revelation and alone is worth every penny of the course. My only question is this: Why the hell is this not a compulsory part of the CBT/DAS?

Hi Sean and Tim

You wanted feedback so here it is; Bloody awesome!

Judging by my ride back home the cornering techniques have already made a difference to my riding, the braking techniques are nothing short of outstanding and i will urge all riders i meet to take this course as one day it will save their lives simple as that. Please could you forward to me the 17 point plan so that i can remind myself regularly of the correct procedures/techniques. My confidence has been given a massive boost and i look forward to seeing you all again shortly when i take the advanced road course. All the very best

Sean,

I completed your advanced cornering and braking course on the 24th July. Not only did I thoroughly enjoy the day but I learnt and experienced many valuable safety lessons. After biking for 35+years and holding an advanced licence I didn’t think there was much I would learn. Wrong. To feel and experience high speed braking, especially on a bend, are life savers.

I’ve never aspired to ‘getting the knee down’ – however, having been shown how to corner properly and been able to experience it in a safe /controlled environment – the benefits are definitely enhanced safety on the road.

Two days after the training, on my way to work – training paid off. Old Warwick Road between Lapworth and Warwick, series of bends near the Cock Horse pub, white transit a good two foot over the white line on a tight bend. Pre training - I would have definitely been down the side of the van. Post training – didn’t bat an eye lid. 60mph on the bend, dipped a little more towards the mirror, bit more load in the peg, tweak/pull on the bars – tightened the bend without braking. Missed the van, to the point I didn’t even look at it or waste any time thinking about it.

Having experienced the feel of controlled cornering on your course – probably saved me from some level of personal injury. As a bonus cornering is now more fun. Many thanks. Kind regards

Sean,

Whoever said "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" (not that I'm particularly old or much like a dog for that matter!), however, having had a break from bikes then getting back into it last year made me realise how out of touch I'd become with what we bikers should be doing as a matter of course safely out there on the public highway.

For one, how to corner, taking into account view, road layout, other road users and the actual physical mechanics involved in getting the bike to turn in, features high on my list of safety considerations, hopefully, whilst making good progress. It was with this mind set that I attended one of your cornering courses today.

The classroom input was engaging and lively, involving everyones experiences as valuable learning points. The concept of breaking down the approach and progress through a corner allowed me time to think about what I actully do myself and what I don't! I can now appreciate the use of counter steering and it was explained so even I knew what everyone was going on about!

Moving onto the track, preceeded by the instructional walk, allowed me to practice in my own time the techniques discussed in class. I found these sessions run with a high regard for our safety and was pleased that they included practice of emergency braking in different scenarios. As the day went on I could feel my riding improve and could see it in the others. The biggest thing for me though was the environment in which the course was run. I know that today whilst practising I may not always have got it just right all the time, and to know that there would be no other vehicles oncoming was a huge source of security and comfort to me. A hugely enjoyable day that was able to cater for everyones own ability. Thank you.

Hi Tim,

I have got to say though that my road riding has improved massively from the day as I feel so much more confident going round bends , to the point that I am leaving my mates behind . I have recomended the course to alot of people and I may be back myself soon as I enjoyed it that much . Thanks once again to yourself , Nick and Sean for giving me a very valuable day . Hopefully will see you sometime in the future . Cheers

Hi Sean,

I'd like to thank you for a fantastic day! I've done other Track Schools and your's is without doubt the best. I could really relate to your no bullshit style. Taking me pillion on my own bike, Cornering faster, leaning further, braking and accellerating harder than i've ever done, showed me what my bike is capable of and has massively increased my confidence. (Orange Blade) I'm hooked! I can't wait to get on track again to practice. Regards

Hi Tim,

Just a quick note to say thanks for the swift delivery of the video of the cornering course held at Mallory on Monday 4th of June. While I thought that the standard of instruction was excellent from all of the guys I must say a special thanks to both yourself and Tim Rogers who stood out as the best of the best. If you can pass on my gratitude to Tim Rogers it would be appreciated. Thanks once again.

Sean,

Just a quick note to thank you once again for the way you presented & engaged with us on the advanced cornering course held Sept 22nd and for your offer to allow us to attend on a future course (at a concessionary rate) due to rain & the early close of our track session. We were really un-lucky with the weather, blazingly sunny & hot the day before & after our session with you.

On the whole I thoroughly enjoyed the day despite the rain & am looking forward to spending some more time with you, hopefully with better weather so that I can develop the techniques & push my boundary. Before attending your course if I had been asked if I practised counter steering I would have said yes, however I realise now that my attempts wouldn’t even meet your definition of passive counter steering.

Thinking & knowing the theory is one thing putting it into practice is quite another. I now know it does work, what a feeling. Initially I found myself trying to hard & rather up tight, trying to get every thing right all at the same time & not doing very well. But as the day went on & speeds progressed I did find that things started to drop into place and yes there is time to do all those 17 things but I do suppose I was missing or cocking up a fair number of them. Need more practice.I am glad you drove us to explore our personal & our machines braking capability. Initially I was braking far to early & having to accelerate again to reach the entry point. I found it particularly difficult & wasn’t happy with any of my attempts at the double apex corner driven anticlockwise. I was either to far in & had to brake again or too far out with a need to accelerate again to reach the entry point. A poor execution of the Exit Apex & Entry assessment. My thanks again to you & your team.

Please could you e-mail me the salient points to your cornering plan, 17 points I believe you mentioned in summarising to the class room session. Thanks

Sean,

Genuine thanks for a brilliant day, the course content was excellent and although it took me time to settle ( my problem not yours) the improvement by the end of the day was very evident to me. A special thank you to 'Mo' who worked with me during the day who recognised my problems and really took a genuine interest in solving them. As far as I am concerned the five stars you got from bike magazine are more than earned , the improvement to my riding was immediate and in a single day the extra confidence you have given me in cornering skills is worth every penny and more. Looking forward to another course with you soon. Regards

Vince

Hi Sean,

it's your worst nightmare pupil! Yes, it's me Sue Sutcliffe! Haha! I just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU once again for the best day of my life! It was definately the 1 to 1 training that got me off the ground as you know I was doing so badly in class! But the grin that it brought to my face was priceless! I wasn't the fastest or the best but that didn't matter in Sue's world, it's the amount I got out of that day which was tremendous! Could you please email me the 17 point plan for cornering and a summary, as I never want to forget all the stuff you went through and being blonde my memory can fail me sometimes! It will also be useful to refer back to in the future. Thanks again Sean for the best day in my life! I'm recommending a few of my friend's to go too! Take care
