Advanced Cornering Course
This course concentrates on the finer aspects of cornering, to enable each rider to become more consistent in their assessment and execution of cornering at speed along with hazard avoidance halfway round corners at up to 80 mph! Bike magazine described the course as “Excellent value for money with superb instruction”, awarding the course a five star rating. So if you’re happy to share one of the UK’s best racing circuits with just a dozen other like minded riders, then this day is for you.
“Excellent value for money with superb instruction”Bike Magazine
The day is designed to build confidence and is tailored to your own specific needs. We enable each rider to become more consistent in their assessment and execution of cornering at speed in a variety of road situations. The emphasis is on making you a more confident rider by using the racetrack as your own personal testing ground!
The day begins at 9.30am with a comprehensive classroom briefing on the art of cornering. Then it’s on to the circuit with your instructor who will work with you to master counter steering, pivot steering, zones of vision, rates of turn, body position, throttle control, gear ratios and traction levels through the turn.
- Your motorcycle must be safe and roadworthy.
- Full motorcycle clothing must be worn (knee sliders are optional).
A maximum of 12 riders are allowed on each course which ensures high safety standards and your personal enjoyment. Video is used from several different angles to help you get the most from the day, which is scheduled to finish at 3.30pm. Remember, this is not a track day where the ambulance gets more track time than the bikes! This is a day to improve your technique and understanding of cornering in a safe controlled environment with limited numbers of riders to allow you maximum track time, space and safety. Instructors will guide you to achieve your individual goals.

Thank you so much for your help last week during the "advanced cornering course" my only reservation before attending was "can i really afford this course ?" well i can now honestly provide the answer.........." i couldn’t afford not too"
I’ve only been riding for just under 3 years and recently purchased a brand new Yamaha R6 after after 2 very happy years riding an old Kwak ZX6!! i have always felt that I’m safer than the average rider and worried more about damaging my bike should i have an accident. I have found the course however a true life saver ! the lads picked up on several bad habits i was unaware of, one of these being my breaking. By the end of the day they had re trained my brain and re flexes to brake safely and correctly and the section on cornering during a bend is nothing short of priceless......90 MPH round a corner, full lean on, then emergency stop !!! sounds crazy but when Wes taught us to do it correctly it felt natural after just a few attempts.
Around 6 months ago i was riding through the Langtons (B6047) in Leics following a friend who’s a little more experienced than myself so i hung back a little but i could see his helmet over the hedge rows slowly increasing in distance so i presumed there was no hazards in the few hundred meters that separated us...wrong !! i entered a right hand bend and began to lean the bike in, half way around the corner on the apex i found a car sat in our lane with no lights on and soon realised it was stationary....the driver was looking to enter a farmers field but the gate was obviously closed !! No brake light or indicator until he saw a green Kwak in his rear view mirror coming toward him at an alarming speed. without the skills you have now given me i panicked and hit both brakes which brought the bike upright then believing it was not possible to stop on a bend at such a short distance i had only one chance to go round the car crossing the white line, then i spotted the car coming the other way....i ended up squeezing through both cars sitting on the white line and got through thanks to pure old luck !! I’m pretty sure both drivers would have heard a girly scream from beneath my helmet if they had listened and not thought that beeping and swearing was the answer to our situation.....
I still have a massive smile on my face one week later following the course and i sit here with bags more confidence and such a better understanding of my bike ! I cannot thank you all enough!! I’ve a lot of respect for bikes and biking is a true passion of mine and after your help i just want to learn more and more....
if anyone is looking to do a course or further there training with CBT and would like to speak with a truly satisfied customer please feel free to contact me on 0752 52 040 62 or you can email me shaunmccluskey79@hotmail.com and ill run you through what i have got out of it..........by the time you read this I may have completed more training !!!
i look forward to seeing you all at Mallory Park again very soon……..safe riding !!!

P.s please thank the camera man for me, I’ve now got around 200 amazing pics of the day to drive the misses crazy. I’ve ordered the video too so after a painful 20 mins last night watching my friends holiday video of him and his girlfriend and what seemed like a million "lovely back grounds" i cannot wait to return the favour as he does not share my love of biking !!!!

Get your Knee Down
Hello Sean.
Thanks to you and the team for a terrific day yesterday. It was probably the most enjoyable I have ever spent on a motorcycle! As a road rider who likes to make progress where safe, I came to the course hoping to improve my cornering technique, increase corner speed, have a greater understanding of the grip available, and more belief in the abilities of my tyres and suspension.
I felt I was under-confident in cornering, could make much better progress safely, and be in a better position to deal competently and confidently with the unforeseen. Your advanced cornering course achieved that more fully than I had ever hoped. That wasn’t all though.
The (unexpected) section on braking was a helpful revelation. To have sustained time on the full track enabled us to start to reinforce and practice what we had learned, and as a Mallory Park spectator over many years, it was an absolute dream to lap the track again and again, gaining confidence and corner speed through the improving technique. (I almost learned as much on the occasions when concentration lapsed, and I made a complete pigs blanket of a corner! On the next straight I had time to analyse what I had done wrong to mess it up. Getting round untidily but ok, demonstrated how much more the bike had to give and the effectiveness of the recovery action we had learned. It also made me more determined to apply what you had said on the next lap and pass through the corner slickly!).
I now need to go away, think very hard about what I have learned, and reinforce good technique through concentration and practice. Well enough of the complimentary stuff, now e-mail me the seventeen points immediately, or I will come round and paint the R1 Barbie pink! All the best Andrew.
Hi Sean
Allie asked me to drop you an email about my near miss on the way home. (Well done on getting her through the test, dead chuffed for her.) After leaving Mallory i filled up at the local garage and then headed for coalville on that lovely twisty road! On entering the very first left hand bend at around 35mph a white Mercedes van going the other way was straddling half of my lane (pillock was on his mobile phone) I simply looked further to the inside my line pushed my left handlebar (hard!) and carried on, no problems at all missed him by miles.
I didn't roll off the throttle, I didn't brake just got out of his way and thought nothing of it.
It wasn't until i arrived back home that i realised without your training i would have more than likely panicked hit the brakes, stuck the bike upright and hit him! For me personally the best thing about your training is that it is fun, very easy to take on board and that it very quickly becomes instinctive and that mate is something to feel very proud of because you and your team are saving peoples lives.
The ability to stop your bike at high speed and at full lean on a corner without losing your line (and your bike!) is a revelation and alone is worth every penny of the course. My only question is this: Why the hell is this not a compulsory part of the CBT/DAS?
Please feel free to use this email as a testimonial for other riders to read. All the best Mark P.s Give me a call about improving your golf, its an easy game ;-) My website is: www.mobilegolfacademy.co.uk 07732 738804
Hi Sean and Tim
You wanted feedback so here it is; Bloody awesome!
Judging by my ride back home the cornering techniques have already made a difference to my riding, the braking techniques are nothing short of outstanding and i will urge all riders i meet to take this course as one day it will save their lives simple as that. Please could you forward to me the 17 point plan so that i can remind myself regularly of the correct procedures/techniques. My confidence has been given a massive boost and i look forward to seeing you all again shortly when i take the advanced road course. All the very best
Sean,
I completed your advanced cornering and braking course on the 24th July. Not only did I thoroughly enjoy the day but I learnt and experienced many valuable safety lessons. After biking for 35+years and holding an advanced licence I didn’t think there was much I would learn. Wrong. To feel and experience high speed braking, especially on a bend, are life savers.
I’ve never aspired to ‘getting the knee down’ – however, having been shown how to corner properly and been able to experience it in a safe /controlled environment – the benefits are definitely enhanced safety on the road.
Two days after the training, on my way to work – training paid off. Old Warwick Road between Lapworth and Warwick, series of bends near the Cock Horse pub, white transit a good two foot over the white line on a tight bend. Pre training - I would have definitely been down the side of the van. Post training – didn’t bat an eye lid. 60mph on the bend, dipped a little more towards the mirror, bit more load in the peg, tweak/pull on the bars – tightened the bend without braking. Missed the van, to the point I didn’t even look at it or waste any time thinking about it.
Having experienced the feel of controlled cornering on your course – probably saved me from some level of personal injury. As a bonus cornering is now more fun. Many thanks. Kind regards
Sean,
Whoever said "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" (not that I'm particularly old or much like a dog for that matter!), however, having had a break from bikes then getting back into it last year made me realise how out of touch I'd become with what we bikers should be doing as a matter of course safely out there on the public highway.
For one, how to corner, taking into account view, road layout, other road users and the actual physical mechanics involved in getting the bike to turn in, features high on my list of safety considerations, hopefully, whilst making good progress. It was with this mind set that I attended one of your cornering courses today.
The classroom input was engaging and lively, involving everyones experiences as valuable learning points. The concept of breaking down the approach and progress through a corner allowed me time to think about what I actully do myself and what I don't! I can now appreciate the use of counter steering and it was explained so even I knew what everyone was going on about!
Moving onto the track, preceeded by the instructional walk, allowed me to practice in my own time the techniques discussed in class. I found these sessions run with a high regard for our safety and was pleased that they included practice of emergency braking in different scenarios. As the day went on I could feel my riding improve and could see it in the others. The biggest thing for me though was the environment in which the course was run. I know that today whilst practising I may not always have got it just right all the time, and to know that there would be no other vehicles oncoming was a huge source of security and comfort to me. A hugely enjoyable day that was able to cater for everyones own ability. Thank you.
Hi Tim,
I have got to say though that my road riding has improved massively from the day as I feel so much more confident going round bends , to the point that I am leaving my mates behind . I have recomended the course to alot of people and I may be back myself soon as I enjoyed it that much . Thanks once again to yourself , Nick and Sean for giving me a very valuable day . Hopefully will see you sometime in the future . Cheers
Hi Sean,
I'd like to thank you for a fantastic day! I've done other Track Schools and your's is without doubt the best. I could really relate to your no bullshit style. Taking me pillion on my own bike, Cornering faster, leaning further, braking and accellerating harder than i've ever done, showed me what my bike is capable of and has massively increased my confidence. (Orange Blade) I'm hooked! I can't wait to get on track again to practice. Regards
Hi Tim,
Just a quick note to say thanks for the swift delivery of the video of the cornering course held at Mallory on Monday 4th of June. While I thought that the standard of instruction was excellent from all of the guys I must say a special thanks to both yourself and Tim Rogers who stood out as the best of the best. If you can pass on my gratitude to Tim Rogers it would be appreciated. Thanks once again.
Sean,
Just a quick note to thank you once again for the way you presented & engaged with us on the advanced cornering course held Sept 22nd and for your offer to allow us to attend on a future course (at a concessionary rate) due to rain & the early close of our track session. We were really un-lucky with the weather, blazingly sunny & hot the day before & after our session with you.
On the whole I thoroughly enjoyed the day despite the rain & am looking forward to spending some more time with you, hopefully with better weather so that I can develop the techniques & push my boundary. Before attending your course if I had been asked if I practised counter steering I would have said yes, however I realise now that my attempts wouldn’t even meet your definition of passive counter steering.
Thinking & knowing the theory is one thing putting it into practice is quite another. I now know it does work, what a feeling. Initially I found myself trying to hard & rather up tight, trying to get every thing right all at the same time & not doing very well. But as the day went on & speeds progressed I did find that things started to drop into place and yes there is time to do all those 17 things but I do suppose I was missing or cocking up a fair number of them. Need more practice.I am glad you drove us to explore our personal & our machines braking capability. Initially I was braking far to early & having to accelerate again to reach the entry point. I found it particularly difficult & wasn’t happy with any of my attempts at the double apex corner driven anticlockwise. I was either to far in & had to brake again or too far out with a need to accelerate again to reach the entry point. A poor execution of the Exit Apex & Entry assessment. My thanks again to you & your team.
Please could you e-mail me the salient points to your cornering plan, 17 points I believe you mentioned in summarising to the class room session. Thanks
Sean,
Genuine thanks for a brilliant day, the course content was excellent and although it took me time to settle ( my problem not yours) the improvement by the end of the day was very evident to me. A special thank you to 'Mo' who worked with me during the day who recognised my problems and really took a genuine interest in solving them. As far as I am concerned the five stars you got from bike magazine are more than earned , the improvement to my riding was immediate and in a single day the extra confidence you have given me in cornering skills is worth every penny and more. Looking forward to another course with you soon. Regards
Hi Sean,
it's your worst nightmare pupil! Yes, it's me Sue Sutcliffe! Haha! I just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU once again for the best day of my life! It was definately the 1 to 1 training that got me off the ground as you know I was doing so badly in class! But the grin that it brought to my face was priceless! I wasn't the fastest or the best but that didn't matter in Sue's world, it's the amount I got out of that day which was tremendous! Could you please email me the 17 point plan for cornering and a summary, as I never want to forget all the stuff you went through and being blonde my memory can fail me sometimes! It will also be useful to refer back to in the future. Thanks again Sean for the best day in my life! I'm recommending a few of my friend's to go too! Take care
